MANY THANKS TO DR. FENNING. . .

Dr. John B. Fenning of Joint Implant Surgeons of Florida, P.A. has been a long time supporter of the VNA of Southwest Florida. Dr. Fenning has been affiliated with Lee Memorial Health System in Fort Myers since May, 1971, and can’t believe how Lee County has grown and changed since the early 70’s. Fenning, along with his first partner, Dr. Jack Warnock, were the first physicians to perform a total joint replacement in Lee County, and the first without bone cement. To date, Dr. Fenning has performed between 4,000 and 5,000 hip replacements and close to 9,000 knee replacements.

Fenning grew up in Vermont, and after graduatingfrom Springfield College in western Massachusetts, attended medical school at the University of Vermont. He received his Diplomate in Orthopaedic Surgery after completing an internship at the U.S. Naval Hospital in Chelsea, MA.

Dr. John B. Fenning

Fenning completed his residency at the U.S. Naval Hospital in Portsmouth, VA, and did post graduate training at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, NC. Fenning then spent 12 years with the United States Navy both in training and the practice of Orthopedic Surgery and is Board Certified with the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery.

In addition to his vast professional associations, Dr. Fenning has been a visiting lecturer at many medical seminars and meetings not only in the United States, but also in Italy and France. Throughout his career, Dr. Fenning has participated in research and has pioneered studies in joint replacement. Since 1976, the lives of many school children in Lee County have been improved as a result of Dr. Fenning’s work to establish a scoliosis screening program for the Lee County School

system. His dedication to patient care and improved patient outcomes has been a guiding force in his long career. In 2002, Fenning was co-inventor of an improved prosthetic knee for increased mobility.

Dr. Fenning has been married to his wife Fran for 26 years and they have 7 children and 12 grandchildren. Locally, he and his wife have been very involved in the Arts in Lee County. He also enjoys spending time at their second home in Big Sky, Montana close to Yellowstone National Park.

On behalf of the entire staff of the Visiting Nurses Association, and the Board of Directors, we thank Dr. Fenning for his many years of support. It has been a privilege to take care of his many patients!

*The VNA would also like to thank the many
