MEET OUR MEDICAL DIRECTOR. . .

Dr. Jon Burdzy has been the medical

directorof VNA of Southwest Florida since 2005.

He is a family physician in solo practice in

Ft. Myers. Dr. Burdzy graduated from Purdue

University and received his doctorate in osteopathic medicine from Nova Southeastern University

College of Osteopathic Medicine in Ft. Lauderdale

Florida. This was followed by an internship

in internal medicine at Genesys Regional

Medical Center in Grand Blanc, MI and then a

residency in family medicine at Florida Hospital East Orlando. Upon finishing his residency, he moved to rural Plymouth, NC and served in the

National Health Service Corps as a family and emergency room physician. Additionally, he was medical Director of Roanoke Home Health and Hospice.

Dr. Burdzy came to Ft. Myers in 2004. In addition to his practice, he has worked with

Hope Hospice. He is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Medicine at both his alma

mater NSU-COM and Kansas City University of Medicine and the Biosciences; working

with medical students and teaching them the ins and outs of family medicine. Caring

for hospitalized patients is also a part of his practice; he is on staff at Lee

Memorial Hospital and Health Park Medical Center. For the last 2 years he has served

as Section Chief of Primary Care Medicine and as a member of the hospital’s

Credentials and Quality and Standards committees.

He is board certified in Family Medicine. His practice consists primarily of adult

outpatient medicine, although he also treats adolescents and a limited number of

children. Preventative care and musculoskeletal medicine are particular interests of

his. He is a member of the American Osteopathic Association, the American College of

Osteopathic Family Physicians, and the Florida Osteopathic Medical

Association.

Dr. Burdzy was born in Denville, NJ and was raised in Holland Twp, Hunterdon County, NJ where his parents still live. In 2001, he married Gwen and they now have 2 children

Nathanael, age 2, and Hannah, who will soon celebrate her first birthday. Outside of

medicine, he is an avid reader and (usually) enjoys doing yard work and caring for

his Labrador Sampson. He would like to be a champion fisherman, but has to settle

for a few fishing trips yearly as his practice and family consume most of his

time.
